Browsing "Older Posts"

Browsing Category "Blogger"
While working on a blog we decided to use the home page for navigation only.So we would have a static home page with a number of sections but no blog posts would be displayed. This however lead to a ugly message being displayed at the bottom of the page with the text "No Posts" on a grey background. You can see a screenshot of how the message looked below :

There was no need for this message on the site I was working on nor is there I think on any blog but it can be quickly removed and here is how.

Remove No Posts Message On Blogger

Step 1. In your Blogger dashboard click the drop down menu for the blog > Choose Template > Customize > Advanced > Add CSS > Then Paste In The Following Code And Click Apply To Blog.
(See video for  more on adding the CSS)
.status-msg-wrap {display: none !important;}

With that the No Posts message is gone, easy.Let us know what you think in the comments below.

You can check out our demo of the effect by clicking the button below then just hover over any of the links on the demo blog to see the magic.I have two links at the top of the sidebar you can quickly check out.

Blogger Navbar Options
We are continuing our Blogger Video Tutorials and while still focusing on the Layout page we now turn to the NavBar.On all default Blogger templates a fixed menu bar is placed at the top of all pages this is known as the Navbar.

The Navbar has some useful features including a Search bar, Social Sharing buttons and Admin options. Some people like to leave it in place if so we will show you how you can change the style making it transparent and changing colors. If it's not to your taste I will also show your how you can completely remove the navbar.

Blogger Logo On A Cushion
After our last post looking at using a favicon on Blogger we stick with the layout page in this Video tutorial moving to the blogs header. The header of your blog will house your blogs title and description (description is optional).By default when you create your blog the blog title will be the name you choose for your blog in text. Many bloggers however want to use a picture for the header and doing so could not be easier.

Check out our video tutorial below that will walk you through the steps involved.

Wikipedia Favicon
When working on design jobs over the years I would always recommend the client use a custom Favicon on their website or blog. The problem then was not adding the favicon to the site, not even finding a Favicon to use but actually explaining exactly what a Favicon is !

I found an image like I have below explained it best.As you can see in the image a Favicon is the small image that appears beside the name of a website in your browser and also in your Bookmarks. The favicon is usually the same as the logo used by a website but it can be anything you want.

If you have chosen Blogger as the platform for your blog getting started is quiet straight forward. In fact you can have your blog live on the web in just a few minutes. However there are a few important steps you should take your time with.

First up Blogger is owned by Google so if you already have a Google account (This would be a Gmail, YouTube, Google+ account etc..) you can actually log in and start with that account. If you don't have a Google account you will create one as your are signing up with Blogger.

Many of the top blog platforms are similar such as Blogger and Wordpress while some of the newer platforms are looking to attract a niche market.I guess we should start with the big two.
